Spain's Judge Baltasar Garzon, already charged with abuse of power in one case, is appearing before the Supreme Court in a separate investigation, according to AP. Garzon faces suspension from his post as investigative magistrate for the National Court after the Supreme Court announced he would stand trial on charges of overstepping his power in investigating the executions and disappearances of tens of thousands of civilians by rightist forces during and after Spain's 1936-39 Civil War. The case, pressed by extreme right wing groups, has raised a political storm in Spain. His appearance Thursday was in connection with a second probe, involving money paid to finance seminars that Garzon organized while on sabbatical in New York City a few years ago.
