Police in Gothenburg, Sweden, tried to keep neo-Nazi demonstrators, protesting the construction of a mosque, from counter-demonstrators, officials said, according to UPI. The Swedish news agency TT reported police formed a human barrier as opposing demonstrators shouted at each other Sunday. "Our aim is to keep the two groups apart," police spokesman Niklas Eriksson told TT. Construction is scheduled to start Tuesday on the mosque at Keillers Park on the island of Hisingen. Police said there were about 100 people in the anti-mosque demonstration, headed by known local neo-Nazis affiliated with the Nordisk Ungdom, or "Nordic Youth" group. The protesters had obtained a police permit. The protesters were opposed by about 300 people in the counter-demonstration led by Natverket Mot Rasism, or "Network Against Racism," an anti-fascist umbrella group that TT said has been criticized for its tolerance of extreme elements. -- SPA
