Brazil awaits a "more concrete" proposal from Washington before deciding whether to defer the application of tariffs on US goods, dpa quoted Brazilian Foreign Minister Celso Amorim as saying today. The World Trade Organization (WTO) has authorized Brazil to impose up to 829 million dollars in tariffs on US goods over Washington's failure to implement rulings against subsidies to its cotton farmers. It is the second-largest retaliatory measure awarded by the global trade body. In a first move, Brazil announced last month that 591 million dollars' worth of import tariffs would be imposed on a range of US goods on Wednesday. Brazil has also warned it would "in the near term" impose separate measures related to intellectual property rights, adding up to 238 million dollars.
