Thunderstorms along the U.S. East Coast Sunday downed power lines and toppled mobile homes -- and may have been accompanied by tornadoes, forecasters said. The storms produced heavy rain, hail and 70 mph winds in some parts of North Carolina. The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings from Florida to Virginia and said there were multiple reports of twisters from Charlotte to Greensboro, N.C. "It's been a very active evening for most of central North Carolina," Julia Jarema, spokeswoman for North Carolina Emergency Management, told CNN. Authorities were unable to confirm late Sunday how many people were affected by scattered power outages in North Carolina. High winds tore off the roof of at least one structure in Belmont, N.C., west of Charlotte, and there were several reports of mobile homes being upended in Linwood, N.C. -- where at least three people were reported injured, CNN said.
