Macedonia is sending an additional 79 troops to Afghanistan to help train members of the Afghan national army and police, according to AP. The soldiers will join the 170-strong Macedonian contingent in Kabul, as part of the international mission in Afghanistan. They will also help guard the mission's headquarters there. The soldiers were scheduled to depart after a ceremony Friday in Macedonia's capital Skopje, and will assist ongoing training efforts by the U.S. Army and Vermont National Guard. President Barack Obama thanked Macedonia for its additional contribution, in a letter to Macedonian counterpart Gjorgje Ivanov.
