A Malaysia Airlines plane successfully made an emergency landing Thursday at Malaysia's Penang airport after a fire broke out inside the aircraft, according to dpa. The Boeing 737 plane was arriving from Singapore and was carrying 83 passengers and seven crew when a series of small explosions occurred inside the plane, the Star newspaper said. The pilot managed to extinguish the fire before landing the plane safely at about noon local time. No passengers or crew members were injured in the incident, which forced the closure of the airport for less than 30 minutes, the report said. The plane was towed to a bay where aviation officials are conducting investigations into the cause of the explosions.
