A poultry farm in southeastern Romania has been quarantined after the H5N1 avian flu virus was found in a flock, European Commission officials said. The national laboratory confirmed the presence of the virus Monday and all of the birds have been culled. There was no report on the number of birds at the farm, according to UPI. A two-mile quarantine area was established around the farm near the town of Letea and a further eight-mile transport control zone was established. The last confirmed case of avian flu in Europe was found in a wild duck a year ago in Germany.
