At least three people were killed and 17 injured when an avalanche struck a snowmobile competition in western Canada, authorities said. About 200 people were at the event Saturday when the avalanche hit on a mountain in British Columbia, said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk, a spokesman for Revelstoke police was quoted as saying by CNN. An unknown number of people are still missing, police said. Rescue operations were suspended for the night but would resume Sunday morning. Emergency crews used various resources, including canine units, to search for survivors after officials cleared the area. The accident occurred during the "Big Iron Shoot out" event on Boulder mountain near Revelstoke.
