The Arab Peace Initiative Follow-up Committee held an extraordinary meeting here today under the chairmanship of Qatar's Permanent Representative to the Arab League Saleh Abdullah Albu'enain to discuss Israel's plans to build new settlements in the occupied East Al-Quds and the western bank. During the meeting, which was attended by Amr Moussa, Secretary General of the Arab League, the committee confirmed that Israel's insistence of its settlement policy in the occupied Palestinian territories would abort all peace attempts, including the U.S. endeavor to resume negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis. The committee demanded the Arab side to seek new mechanisms to activate the Arab Peace Initiative. It said Israel's recent plan to build 1600 residential units in the occupied East Al-Quds represents flagrant violation of the international legitimacy and human rights charter.
