Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, the Governor of Makkah region, met here today with Minister of Transport Dr Jubara Al-Suraiseri to get briefed on the phases of Haramain High Speed Rail project, which will link Makkah with Madinah via Jeddah. The 448-kilometer long project includes five stations in Makkah, Jeddah, King Abdulaziz International Airport, King Abdullah Economic City and Madinah. Al-Suraiseri said the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has issued his directives to finance the project from the investment funds in the Kingdom. He noted that pilgrims, visitors and Umrah (minor Hajj) performers will utilize the train between Makkah and Madinah by 2012, and arrangements are underway among 21 governmental and private sectors in this respect. On his part, Prince Khalid al-Faisal, underscoring the importance of the railway project, said the Kingdom is witnessing implementation of projects in the various domains. The meeting was attended by a number of senior officials.
