FIFA president Sepp Blatter says he has confidence in South African security plans for the World Cup, according to AP. Blatter says South Africa proved in recent sporting contests including last year's Confederations Cup that it can stage the tournament successfully. He spoke Friday after a two-day workshop that included World Cup organizing chief Danny Jordaan, team security and police representatives from 29 of the 32 nations playing in the tournament. Interpol security chief Christopher Eaton said the coordination has been «exceptional» ahead of the June 11-July 11 tournament. South Africa suffers from endemically high crime, including one of the worst homicide rates in the world.
