based Al-Madinah newspaper, commenting on the Iraqi elections, said the Iraqi general elections due to be held on Sunday constitute a great challenge before Iraq and if they are held without foreign intervention and sectarian attitudes, then the way will be paved for formation of a government with a broad-base that could be capable of enhancing the pillars of stability and peace throughout the country following the American withdrawal by 2011. The paper pointed out to the report of the international group for tackling crises which said the Iraqi government is still weak and politicians in the country are divided, adding that it is hoped the Iraqis will vote for the candidates who are keen on the preservation of Iraq's unity and independence and enabling the country to play a pioneering role at the regional and international arenas. "What makes us optimistic about the future of Iraq is the decision of Iraqi Sunnah to participate in the forthcoming elections after boycotting the previous elections held in 2005," said the daily. "Let us pray to Allah Almighty and hope that the elections in Iraq will become a bridge for restoration of peace and security among the Iraqis, because unified Iraq is the Iraq which is capable of realizing the ambitions of the Iraqis and leading them towards a promising and bright future."
