Scores of Jordanian politicians and trade union members staged a sit-in at the Trade Unions Complex in Amman on Saturday, to denounce Israel's recent move to add two West Bank holy sites to the list of Jewish heritage sites, according to dpa. The participants, including Muslim Brotherhood figures and leading trade unionists, chanted slogans and raised placards calling for concrete action against Israel, including the declaration of jihad (holy war) and the rupture of ties with the Jewish state by all Muslim countries. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu earlier this week announced the inclusion of the Cave of the Patriarchs in Hebron, Islam's second holiest shrine in the West Bank, and the Tomb of Rachel near Bethlehem on the list of Jewish heritage sites. In Islam, the Cave of the Patriarchs is known as the Haram al-Ibrahimi, while the Tomb of Rachel is known as the Bilal Mosque. "The response to this crime should not be confined to the issuance of denunciation statements, but must go beyond to express backing for the resistance option, the cancellation of all peace pacts and the suspension of all forms of normalization with Israel," Chairman of the Jordan Doctors Association Ahmad Armouti said. Speakers during the function also rebuked the US, the European Union and other world powers for their failure to condemn the Israeli step.
