The US special envoy for North Korea called Thursday for reviving international talks on ending Pyongyang's nuclear arms programme, according to dpa. "I'm confident at some point we'll have a resumption of talks," Stephen Bosworth said after meeting with Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi in the Chinese capital. The discussions between North Korea, South Korea, the US, Russia, China and Japan have been on hold since North Korea walked out in April over UN-imposed sanctions. Bosworth was in China on the first stop of a trip set to include South Korea and Japan. The response from Beijing's Foreign Ministry to his appeal was positive. There is a good opportunity to pull the six-party talks out of a dilemma, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said. Bosworth also met the Chinese envoy for North Korea, Wu Dawei, on Wednesday. The US diplomat's trip is part of a wider diplomatic effort to get the six parties back to the negotiating table. On Tuesday, Chinese President Hu Jintao met in Beijing with North Korean Premier Kim Yong Il. The South Korean negotiator for the talks, Wi Sung Lac, also visited Beijing for official talks this week. Wang Jiarui, director of the international department of China's governing Central Committee, travelled to Pyongyang in early February to encourage North Korea to agree to resuming the talks.
