Air France-KLM shares plunged by more than 9 per cent today after the company warned that it could suffer a loss of more than 1 billion euros (1.38 billion dollars) for the fiscal year ending in March 2010, dpa reported. By mid-afternoon, the company's shares had fallen by 9.03 per cent, to stand at 10.48 euros, on the report that losses for the fourth quarter would probably be about the same as one year earlier, 574 million euros. Air France-KLM said Thursday that losses for the first nine of its fiscal year 2009-2010 stood at 868 million euros. If its prognosis for the current quarter is correct, that would put full-year losses at more than 1.4 billion euros. Turnover for the period April to December 2009 fell by 18.6 per cent, to 15.97 billion euros, primarily because of weak results in Europe and in its air freight division. Traffic for the nine months fell by 4.3 per cent, while return per seat-kilometre dropped by 13 per cent compared to the same period in 2008, the company said.
