The White House on Thursday said that the administration of U.S. President Barack Obama has to work hard at stabilizing the embattled economy so that job growth can start once again. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs' comments came before Senate leaders are set to pass a jobs bill next week as key Democrats and Republicans neared agreement Thursday on a proposal to give businesses a tax break for hiring unemployed workers. "We've got a tremendous hole to fill" with the worst economic recession since the Great Depression of the 1930s, Gibbs said, adding that for that reason, partisan politics cannot play a part. "We have to work together to get our economy moving again." More importantly, "we have to create a new foundation" within the economy to allow for job growth to take place, he said, adding that it does not take economic reports for the public to understand the current economic crisis. "The American people understand" the scope and depth of this crisis because they live it every day, Gibbs said.
