au-Prince, February 04, 2010, SPA -- The number of people killed in last month's earthquake in Haiti has topped 200,000, dpa quoted Prime Minister Jean-Max Bellerive as saying. The government had previously said that the magnitude-7, January 12 quake had killed up to 200,000 people, but Bellerive said Wednesday that that number had been surpassed and the new toll did not include bodies that remained trapped in the rubble or those removed by families for burial. According to the government, 1 million people were left homeless and more than 300,000 people were injured in the quake, which destroyed large parts of Port-au-Prince and areas west of the capital.
