Sheikh Faisal Khalifah Al malik Al Sabah, The Under Secretary of the Kuwaiti ministry of Information chaired here today the First meeting of the GCC Satellite and Youth Standing Committee comprising GCC General Secretaries, Under Secretary of Ministries of Information and delegates of media institutions and those engaged in the field of satellite of member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council. Khalid Omar Al Marhoun, The GCC Deputy Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs, pointed out that the satellite channels targeting the Arab audience continues to increase, and other means of communication channels are equally affected if not beyond, most notably the Internet, and mobile phones. He pointed out that the negative impact on young viewers is not limited to, necessarily, to suspicious channels, but includes most of the channels that encumber the Arab space. These distracting channels are with shallow contents for the youth. He added that the influence and the rehabilitation cannot be limited to a means of communication, as other elements of impacts are involved such as home, school and community. The meeting will discuss a number of submissions from the Secretariat and members of the Committee.
