The failure to reach a final peace agreement with the rebels of Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) with the government of Philippines, is not the end of peace talks, senior negotiator of Philippines Rafael Segus said. Local media quoted Segus on Sunday as saying that his country is seriously studying a draft of agreement between the two sides, presented in the negotiations hosted by Malaysia last Thursday, before resuming talks by mid February. He expressed hope that the next stage of negotiations would lead to reaching a final peace agreement with MILF. Negotiations between Philippines and MILF resumed early 2009, after a stop in 2006 due to failure to reach an agreement on the inherited areas, inhibited by Muslims hundreds of years ago, KUNA reported.
