Officials in Brazil said Wednesday that heavy rains have filled two dams to capacity in Sao Paulo state, threatening 12 cities with more flooding. More than 100 people have been killed by mudslides and floods triggered by rain across southeastern Brazil since January 1. The most rain has fallen in the states of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. An official who oversees dams in Sao Paulo said two dams in the state can no longer hold water. While there is no sign they are in danger of bursting, any more rain will flow into already full rivers and worsen flooding, he said, adding that at least 6,000 people must be evacuated.
