Germany is mulling how many more troops it might commit to Afghanistan ahead of an international conference on the country's future, AP reported. In a preview of an interview for its Monday edition, the Frankfurter Allgemeine daily quoted Defense Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg as saying that he will name «a concrete figure for a possible increase of the German troop contingent» before this week's conference in London. Germany has nearly 4,300 soldiers in northern Afghanistan. They serve under a parliamentary mandate that currently sets the maximum number at 4,500. Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Saturday that her country will step up training of Afghan security forces, but she didn't elaborate.
