The United Nations Security Council on Tuesday authorized the deployment of an additional 3,500 peacekeepers to bolster its presence in Haiti. "By approving my proposal, yesterday, to send an additional 2,000 soldiers and 1,500 police officers to Haiti, the Council sends a clear signal: The world is with Haiti," U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said after the vote. The additional peacekeepers will bring to 12,000 the number of forces in Haiti.
