Police said 11 people have been injured in a gas explosion that severely damaged apartments in the town center of Shrewsbury some 165 miles (265 kilometers) northwest of London, AP reported. Police said two of the injuries are serious, including a woman who suffered severe burns and a man with spinal injuries. The blast Sunday morning demolished some apartments and a shop, and damaged neighboring apartments. Residents said the explosion caused buildings and windows throughout the neighborhood to shake, and triggered heavy smoke and flames. Debris littered the streets. The explosion and cleanup caused major delays for motorists in the area, as part of the town center was closed to traffic.
