A moderate earthquake hit northwestern Mexico near the U.S. border on Wednesday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported. The 5.9-magnitude earthquake was centered 30 kilometers southeast of Mexicali, near the California border, at a depth of 7 kilometers, the USGS said. No injuries or damage was initially reported.
