A Jordanian prince, a short-track Olympic winner from China and the head of cycling"s world governing body are among six candidates to become members of the International Olympic Committee, according to dpa. The IOC executive board meeting in Lausanne, Switzerland nominated the six new members for election at the IOC general assembly in Vancouver in February, ahead of the winter Games. The list includes Prince Faisal of Jordan, China"s speedkater Yang Yang, Pat McQuaid of Ireland, the president of the international cycling federation UCI, Barry Maister, secretary general of the New Zealand Olympic committee, Maria Casada Estupinan of Spain, the head of the International Triathlon Union, and Dagmawit Girmay Berhane, an official of the Ethiopian national Olympic committee. Faisal"s sister, Princess Haya, has been an IOC member since 2007 and is president of the FEI, the international equestrian federation. The six new members will bring the total IOC membership to 114, including 20 women. The IOC currently has 112 members, but four will retire at the end of the year.
