Afghanistan"s President Hamid Karzai asked the United States and its allies for patience if his country can"t take over responsibility for its security by July 2011. "We will try our best as the Afghan people to do it the soonest possible," Karzai told CNN Sunday. "But the international community must have also the patience with us and the realization of the realities in Afghanistan. If it takes longer, then they must be with us." Karzai"s comments came in his first televised interview since U.S. President Barack Obama announced his new Afghan strategy last week. Obama said an additional 30,000 U.S. troops would be deployed to Afghanistan but he hopes to begin withdrawing troops by July 2011. Karzai said he"s hopeful his government can take over security control in some parts of the country within two years and in the entire country within five years.
