The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has confirmed that its recognition of Kosovo as an independent republic comes in respect to the desire of Kosovo Muslim people to achieve independence and self-determination and in support of the efforts of the international community seeking to bring peace, security, development and progress to Kosovo and the Balkan region as a whole. This came in a speech delivered yesterday by the Saudi Ambassador to the Netherlands Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al-Shaghrud before the International Court of Justice, regarding the declaration of Kosovo"s independence unilaterally from Serbia. The court is holding consultations on Kosovo at the request of the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York which addressed the International Court of Justice to give an advisory opinion on the consistency of the resolution of Kosovo independence with the rules of international law. --SPA
