Turkey says it is reviewing whether to increase its commitment to NATO"s mission in Afghanistan but rules out participating in combat operations. The Foreign Ministry says a review of whether to increase the training of Afghan security forces is under way, according to a report of the Associated Press. Defense Minister Vecdi Gonul said late Wednesday that Turkish soldiers in Afghanistan will not be part of any combat operation. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will travel to Washington for a Monday meeting with President Barack Obama, who is seeking additional troops from NATO allies in Afghanistan.
