The Mauritanian armed forces have located three Spanish aid workers abducted on Sunday, Reuters quoted Mauritanian security sources as saying today. A report from news agency DPA posted on the website of Spanish newspaper El Mundo said negotiations had begun with the kidnappers to free the two men and one woman. A Spanish foreign ministry spokeswoman said Madrid was trying to confirm the reports. The Spanish government has said it believes Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb was involved in the kidnapping of the three, who were distributing computers and other equipment to poor communities for a Barcelona-based aid organisation.
