Officials in Russia say a bombing has killed the police chief of a town in the violence-plagued Ingushetia province, according to AP. Provincial Interior Ministry spokeswoman Madina Khadziyeva said the bomb exploded beneath the car in which the police chief in Karabulak was riding home from work Friday. She said the driver was hospitalized with moderately serious injuries. Ingushetia and other provinces in Russia"s heavily Muslim North Caucasus are mired in violence stemming from two 1990s wars between separatist rebels in Chechnya and the Russian government. There has been an upsurge in bombings and other attacks over the past year in Ingushetia, Chechnya and neighboring Dagestan. Police are frequently targeted.
