French retailer Carrefour SA has decided to pull the plug on its Russian expansion plans due to a lack of growth opportunities there, AP quoted the company as saying today. Paris-based Carrefour, the world's second-largest retailer after U.S.-based Wal-Mart Stores Inc., said it will sell all its activities in Russia, a market it entered only last year. Carrefour currently operates two hypermarkets in Russia _ in Moscow and Krasnodar. Carrefour announced the planned withdrawal alongside its third quarter sales, which slipped 2.9 percent to $35.8 billion.
