On behalf of Prince Khalid Al-Faisal bin Abdulaziz, the Governor of Makkah Region, the Minister of Water and Electricity Abdullah Al-Hussein inaugurated here on Sunday evening the 5th Saudi Forum for Water and Energy. The Minister toured an exhibition held on the sidelines of the Forum. A speech ceremony was held on this occasion. In his speech the Minister of Water and Electricity pointed out that this year has been full of achievements and developments similar to the previous years. The Minister explained that within the privatization of water sector, the National Water Company will be responsible for about %60 of the water sector in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He noted that the private sector has produced two projects Al-Shuaiba 3 and Marafeq, within large-scale projects for production of water and electricity handled by the private sector, with a total output of desalinated water of 1.6 million cubic meters and 3500 MW of electricity, an equivalent to a half of the current production of desalinated water in the Kingdom by Saline Water Conversion Corporation and nearly its entire production of electricity.
