A gang of audacious thieves robbed a police station in the northern Colombian town of Malambo, local media reported Thursday, according to dpa. The heavily-armed thieves noticed that there was only one officer in the small police station and had little trouble in overpowering him. A police spokesman in the Caribbean region of Atlantico, where Malambo is located, said the robbers took off with about 5,000 dollars from a safe. The cash - from a social programme managed by the Colombian presidency and intended to help the poor in Malambo - had been left there for safekeeping because the police station was considered secure. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the case.
