The Hungarian foreign minister's comments Thursday that Slovakia must learn manners from its "older brother" has angered his Slovakian counterpart, according to dpa. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Balazs made the comments in an interview printed in Thursday's edition of the German daily Sueddeutsche Zeitung. Relations between the two countries have grown increasingly fraught over the last year, most recently when Slovakia implemented a law that restricts the use of minority languages, including Hungarian. Balazs said Hungary was like an "older brother" to Slovakia and was thus responsible for educating Slovakia in "European customs." Additionally, Balazs compared the Slovakian government with the former regime of Romanian dictator Nicolae Ceausescu. Slovakian Foreign Minister Miroslav Lajcak responded that he was horrified by the comments, which were termed "unacceptable." The dispute comes just over a week after the prime ministers of the two countries met to find a way to resolve their differences.
