Washington's Middle East envoy George Mitchell arrived late Wednesday in Beirut for talks with Lebanese officials regarding the Middle East process, dpa reported. Senator George Mitchell will immediately go into talks with Lebanese president Michel Suleiman. Mitchell arrived from Israel, after holding two days of talks with Israeli officials, during which he failed to convince the Israeli officials to freeze the building of settlements in the occupied West Bank. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, said he would continue to follow the policies of previous governments to build no new settlements, but he will also allow the construction of nearly 3,000 new apartments within existing ones. -- SPA
