The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has called on United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to approve the request of Palestine to join the membership of the Organization. The Kingdom's call came in a speech of Saudi Deputy Minister of Education and Member of Executive Board of UNESCO Faisal bin Abdulrahman bin Muammar at the Board's 182nd session currently in progress in Paris. The speech was read on his behalf by the Kingdom's Permanent Representative to UNESCO, Dr. Ziad Al-Drees. He noted that Palestine's request has been on the agenda of the Organization's Executive Board and General Conference for 20 years, but nothing has been done in this regard.
