California will have America's most ambitious renewable energy goal under an executive order signed by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, according to AP. Tuesday's action requires the state's utilities to get a third of their power from renewable sources by 2020 and counters Democratic legislation that Schwarzenegger says he will veto. The Republican governor says his action will ensure that California remains a pioneer in clean energy. His administration says the Democratic bills passed over the weekend give utilities too little flexibility and impose too many regulations. In part, the bills would have limited how much wind, solar and geothermal energy utilities could import from other states. Schwarzenegger signed the executive order at a solar field in a Sacramento suburb.
