A local official says flash flooding in a remote Indonesian mountain village has killed at least 15 people. Another 25 are missing, The Associated Press reported. North Sumatra provincial spokesman Edi Syofian said the bodies were found after torrential rain swept through Northern Sumatra on Tuesday. Health Ministry Crisis Center chief Rustam Pakaya said emergency supplies were to be delivered to around 200 families who fled inundated homes in search of dry ground. The region is about 780 miles (1,250 kilometers) northwest of the capital of Jakarta. Seasonal downpours cause annual flash flooding in Indonesia, a vast archipelago of 17,000 islands where millions of people live in mountainous areas or near fertile flood plains.
