South Korea supports direct talks between the United States and North Korea in moves to bring the North back to so-called six-party negotiations over Pyongyang's nuclear programme, dpa qouted South Korean Foreign Ministry spokesman Moon Tae Young as saying Saturday. Moon added that it is the position of the South Korean government not to oppose bilateral talks by other six-party members (US, Russia, Japan, and China) with Pyongyang if such would lead to the elimination of North Korea's nuclear weapons and bring negotiations forward. On Friday, the US stated it was willing to hold direct talks with North Korea in order to bring it back to the negotiating table to end its nuclear weapons programme. According to US State Department spokesman PJ Crowley, officials would meet bilaterally with Pyongyang in order to "convince North Korea to come back to the six-party process and to take affirmative steps towards denuclearization." -- SPA
