Firefighters continued to make headway today against the biggest fire in the history of Los Angeles County, which investigators have concluded was sparked by arson, according to dpa. The fire has burned more than 58,000 hectares around Los Angeles and was 42 per cent contained, fire commanders said. Two firefighters were killed while battling the blaze, and police have launched homicide investigations after material that was used to start or accelerate flames near the fire's point of origin were found, officials said. "Arson investigators have concluded that the Station Fire was the result of an arson," Forest Service Commander Rita Wears told reporters at a press conference. The fire, now in its tenth day, has destroyed 62 homes, and full containment is expected by September 15.
