A hurricane watch was issued Thursday for Bermuda as Hurricane Bill continued its path toward the Atlantic islands, reported the dpa. Hurricane Bill, the first hurricane-strength storm of the Atlantic season, was expected to pass between Bermuda and the US East Coast early Saturday, the National Hurricane Centre in Miami said. The storm had lost some of its strength and was a category three hurricane on the five-point Saffir-Simpson scale, but could regain strength on Friday, forecasters said. Bill was located about 610 kilometres north of the Leeward Islands and 1,120 kilometres south-southeast of Bermuda at 1500 GMT Thursday with winds of 195 kilometres per hour. Strong waves generated by the storm were expected in the Leeward Islands, the Bahamas, Bermuda, the United States and Canada in coming days, forecasters said.
