A Nigerian man was arrested Thursday by Italian police after 84 small latex bags filled with cocaine were found concealed in his stomach, news reports said, according to dpa. Police became suspicious after the 24-year-old man, who arrived at the Capodichino international airport on a flight from Amsterdam, Netherlands began acting nervously. After several doses of laxatives were found in the man's luggage, police escorted him to a Naples hospital where he underwent X-ray controls. The packets held a total of 1.15 kilograms of cocaine, estimated to be worth more than 100,000 euros (141,000 dollars) according to the ANSA news agency. In a separate development, police announced Thursday the seizure of 55 kilograms of cocaine and the arrest of 14 people - all Suriname nationals - allegedly involved in smuggling the drug from South America to Europe through Rome's Fiumicino airport. Additional details on the operation, which began following the interception of a drug haul in February, were not immediately available.
