An 6.1-magnitude aftershock struck off the western coast of Indonesia's Sumatra island on Sunday evening, after an initial earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale, meteorologists said, according to dpa. The latest aftershock rattled the Mentawai Islands and the western coast of West Sumatra at 7:49 pm (1249 GMT) with its epicentre about 61 kilometres south-east of Siberut Island, the Indonesia's Meteorology and Geophysics Agency said. It occurred at about 21 kilometres beneath the seabed, the agency said in its website. An initial 6.9-magnitude earthquake struck the area five hours earlier, with its epicentre was about 43-kilometres south-east of Siberut Island in the Mentawai islands. At least four people were injured while hundreds of others out their homes in panic. It was followed by a series of aftershocks.
