Eurotunnel, the company that runs the Channel Tunnel, said Friday that last September's fire in one of its tubes led to a loss of 8 million euros (11.45 million dollars) for the first half of 2009, according to dpa. Turnover was down by 18 per cent, compared to the same period last year, to 302 million euros. "Full Tunnel capacity for shuttles was restored on February 10, 2009, and Eurostar returned to full service on February 23, which distorts the comparison with the first half of 2008," the company said. Eurotunnel said that the effect of the fire was felt particularly in truck transport, which fell by 53 per cent, year on year, in the first half of 2009, to just below 355,000.
