The White House on Monday stressed the importance of health care reform, in the midst of what is thought to be a roadblock in passing the massive legislation through Congress. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs told reporters that U.S. President Barack Obama is in constant communication with lawmakers, though both Democratic and Republican lawmakers are both having trouble passing the legislation. Americans have been discussing health care reform for tens of years, Gibbs said, emphasizing that “this is a crucial time for health care reform.” Also stressing urgency, Gibbs said that “delay” in passing the legislation “means real things…more people will be denied coverage.” Speaking out against “politicizing” the issue, Gibbs asked lawmakers to not view the reform from a “political lens,” but rather to see the long term investment in a necessary health care overhaul.
