The British government has refused to grant parole to Ronnie Biggs, the Great Train Robber, a statement said Wednesday, according to dpa. Justice Secretary Jack Straw said Biggs, 79, had been "wholly unrepentant" over the 1963 robbery and his subsequent escape. Biggs, who is seriously ill, gave himself up to British police in 2001, after 36 years on the run. The prison parole board had recommended his release on July 3, the earliest possible date.
