Ireland to seek Lisbon referendum in early October

The Irish government will seek to hold a second referendum on the European Union's stalled Lisbon Treaty in early October, dpa cited Irish Prime Minister Brian Cowen as saying today.
Irish voters rejected the treaty at a referendum in June 2008. On
Friday, EU leaders at a summit in Brussels approved a set of legal
guarantees designed to overcome Irish fears that the treaty would
take away their country's neutrality and its control of its tax and
family laws.
