Obama ensnared in "flygate"
Published in Saudi Press Agency on 18 - 06 - 2009

It turns out US President Barack Obama's successful swat of a bothersome insect during a taped interview did not fly with animal rights groups, according to dpa.
Pressed by journalists, the animal advocates organization PETA
decided to react - albeit with some humour - to Obama's quick handed
killing of the fly, which was aired on television by CNBC.
"I guess it can't be said that President Obama wouldn't hurt a
fly," PETA wrote on its blog. "The commander in chief was recently
pestered by a fly during an interview. He swatted at the insect and
killed the little guy instantly."
In fairness to the president, he did warn the persistent fly.
"Get out of here," Obama said.
But the insect's failure to heed the executive order resulted in
its executive execution.
Obama snapped his right open palm onto the back of his left hand
where the fly had landed. A split second later, the poor thing
tumbled dead to a fancy White House rug.
Obama looked down and kicked his victim aside.
"That was pretty impressive, wasn't it?" Obama said to the praise
of aides in the room. "I got the sucker." After the interview, Obama
cleaned up the aftermath himself, using a tissue to dispose of the
corpse.
PETA said it had no intention of making an issue of Obama
punishing the unwelcome guest, but did so after numerous media
inquires. The organization said it was sending the president a
"handy-dandy" bug catcher so future intruders can be captured and
released outside.
"He isn't the Buddha," PETA said of Obama. "He's a human being,
and human beings have a long way to go before they think before they
act."
"We support compassion for all animals, even the most curious,
smallest, and least sympathetic ones," the blog said.
