Cyprus has destroyed 324 expired, Soviet-era anti-aircraft missiles in line with a pledge to the Organization for Security in Europe to eliminate weapons posing a potential terrorist threat, according to AP. Defense Minister Costas Papacostas presided over a ceremony Friday at a firing range near the island's southern coast where the shoulder-fired 2SA-7 missiles were destroyed in a controlled explosion. The missiles' useful life expired in 1992. Papacostas said Cyprus shares the OSCE's concern over the threat posed by shoulder-launched missiles that could be used for «acts of destruction» if they fell in terrorist hands. Also attending the ceremony was OSCE Forum for Security Co-operation Chairman Iliya Giorgadze.
