The mayor of Louisiana city New Orleans has been released from quarantine in China, his spokesperson said Wednesday. Spokeswoman Ceeon Quiett confirmed that Mayor Ray Nagin and his wife had been released and were headed to Australia. The couple and their bodyguard were placed in quarantine Sunday after a passenger on their flight from the United States showed symptoms that raised fears about swine flu. Quiett said Nagin was planning to make the second leg of an overseas trip with speeches in Australia. In a statement, Nagin said he, his wife and bodyguard were leaving Shanghai in “the best of health and spirits.” He thanked officials in Shanghai, the U.S. Embassy and others “for prioritizing the health and safety” of the three.
